Collaborative Projects
- ATI Research & Development will be working with Dr Vic Kalman from Wilmington,
DE, on a study with patients that have OA of the knee of a liquid nutrient containing
humic nutrients, Ecklonia cava (sea kelp)and aloe vera versus placebo.
- Correlation of Ligamentum Teres Tear to Acetabular Architecture: A Possible Manifestation
of Micro-Instability by Itamar B. Botser, MD, Dorea Martin, BS, BA, Chris E. Stout,
PsyD, Benjamin G. Domb, MD is being written.
- The Ligamentum Teres of the Hip: A New Arthroscopic Classification System, by
Itamar B. Botser, MD, Dorea Martin, BS, BA, Chris E. Stout, PsyD, Benjamin G. Domb,
MD is being written.
- Jeff Mjaanes, MD, is interested in collaborating in studying the differential
efficacy of PRP injections vs. surgery.
- Dr. Vakili is interested in participating in studies on women's health. He would
like to develop a pelvic floor pain survey to the SF-36 questionnaire but one that
would include sexual, bladder and bowel function to effectively measure outcomes.
- ATI Research & Development is preparing to commence a collaborative study with
LiteCure to examine the utility of laser treatment in rehabilitation.
- Amanda Houk, PT, is working on a project with the Bariatric Program at the Pritzker
School of Medicine at the University of Chicago to develop post-op PT protocols.
- Shawn Sanicola, DPM, interested in a project looking into the effectiveness of
PT on forefoot amputee patients with Kent Carlson, PT
- Todd Sayer PT, MBA will be embarking on a new study of hip arthroscopic patient
management that looks to demonstrate the correlation of SIJ dysfunction with contra
lateral labral pathology with Dr. Domb.
- Dr. Thomas Hurley and our Women Serving Women clinicians are developing patient
education materials that will focus on the numerous daily activities that can precipitate
back injuries in women. Patients will learn the basics of the spine, common causes
of low back pain and conservative treatment options available.
- "Peripheral nerve field stimulation for neck pain" with Dr. Lipov and a grant
application from Medtronic was accepted and ATI Research & Development will be receiving
a five-figure service grant!
- "Prospective Comparison of Arthroscopic vs. Open Approaches for Osteoplasty, Acetabuloplasty,
and Labral Repair in Femoro-Acetabular Impingement" with Dr. Domb.
- "Physical therapy for pelvic floor dysfunction, pain, and incontinence," with
Dr. Vakili.
- "Peripheral Arterial Disease and PT Study," Wade Meyer, DPT, Amanda Houk, PT,
Dr. Sewell, and Chris Stout, PsyD.
- "Development and Evaluation of Outcomes of Differential PT Treatment Protocol
for Synvisc Single Injection" both with Genzyme and Dr. Payne (grant application
in review).
- "Vertebral Augmentation via Percutaneous Vertebroplasty, Kyphoplasty, or Structural
Kyphoplasty with or without Post-surgical PT in OA Patients: An Evaluation of Outcomes"
with Drs. Vlahos & Facchini.
- "Outcomes of Surgery for Acute Shoulder Procedures versus Delayed Surgery" with
Dr. Burt.
Internal Projects
- ATI Research & Development is exploring the requirements to develop a Political
Action Committee to help ensure patients' rights.
- ATI Research & Development will be conducting data mining and developing graphical
representation of tends and patterns for patient complaint data in order to become
more proactive.
- ATI Research & Development conducted numerous lit reviews, including those on
"rocker bottom shoes," 12% incline for rehab on ACL patients, mykoplasty, 1 RM for
shoulder press and dead lifts, benefit of PT for hallux ridgidus and PT post bunionectomy,
and other topics, now also in SharePoint Library.
- ATI Research & Development has started to develop a EBP real-time consult embedded
in Electronic Medical Record.
