Abbi
Kokomo, IN
Abbi, our 2015 Holiday Kids Campaign beneficiary for the Indiana region, was born with Spina Bifida, a lifelong debilitating condition that causes her to have no feeling in her legs below her knees. She wears ground reactive anklefoot orthotics in order for her to move from one place to another.
Between the lack of sensation, balance issues and the leg braces she wears, she is unable to keep her feet on the pedals of a traditional bicycle making it a complicated and potentially dangerous experience. Not only would an adaptive bicycle provide hours of fun and exercise for Abbi, it would serve as a great source of therapy, both physically and socially. Abbi lives with her brother and her mother, who is currently unable to work. The adaptive bicycle will cost around $2,000.
