Hearing and Vision Impairments, Sensory Challenges
Caleb seemed to be developing slowly from birth, before he stopped making sounds around 20 months old. He was diagnosed with a hearing impairment in his left ear and at around age two he began having seizure-like activity and a vision problem in his left eye.
He was officially diagnosed with nonverbal autism and receives ABA therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.
To assist with his speech and communication, Caleb needs a communication device that will allow him to express himself to others and communicate his needs and wants. This device is especially needed for communication with his family on day-to-day activities that bring major challenges.
Additionally, he struggles with all things sensory and would benefit from several items designed to develop motor planning and body awareness, while also increasing sleep and reducing anxiety.
The ATI Foundation will provide financial assistance toward the purchase of a communication device and software, and other needed sensory equipment.
