Colton
Indianapolis, IN
Age 4
Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita
Colton has no use of his arms, very limited use of two fingers on each hand, and he has severe problems with his legs. These challenges are all caused by a rare disease known as arthrogryposis.
Unable to lift his arms or carry anything, Colton can only stand with the use of leg braces. To date, he has had nine surgeries on his femur, feet and ankles. In September of 2017, Colton will undergo another surgery to build a left hip socket that will require him to be in a body cast for several months.
Colton has many challenges with mobility. An adaptive tricycle will allow him to move around more freely, as well as strengthen his shoulders, legs and core muscles. The use of an adaptive tricycle will make his many hours of therapy more fun, while allowing him the ability to exercise and play like other kids his age. The adaptive trike will also give Colton more independence without the fear of falling.
The ATI Foundation will help purchase an adaptive tricycle and a harness swing that will also help improve his upper body strength. The estimated cost of these items is $2,000.
