Guadalupe
Las Vegas, NV
Ataxia Telangiectasia
Age 10
Guadalupe suffers from a rare and complex genetic neurodegenerative disorder that is a combination of muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis and various immune deficiencies. Only 500 children across the nation suffer from this disease.
She loves school, singing, and Monster High, but is now wheelchair bound and needs assistance with all daily activities. Her prognosis is not good, as the family has been told she may not live past her teens.
Because of her degenerative condition, Guadalupe’s family recently had to purchase a new home and wheelchair accessible van to better accommodate her long-term care. These purchases have caused heavy financial burdens. The family relies on dad’s income, as mom had to quit her job and care for Guadalupe full-time. Recently, the Herrera family has discovered that Guadalupe’s younger brother also suffers from the same genetic disorder.
The ATI Foundation will provide financial assistance toward several payments for their wheelchair accessible van.
