Acute Flaccid Myelitis
On September 26, 2016 symptoms of a common cold rapidly turned into a life-threatening situation. Lacey was suddenly paralyzed and on life support machines. Lacey was diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis, a polio-like virus that caused infection from her brain down to her spinal cord.
After several weeks in the hospital Lacey has regained some use of her left arm and right leg, but she will need to re-learn how to use her extremities and walk again.
She has been transferred to a inpatient rehabilitation center where she will undergo intensive physical, ccupational and speech therapy. The out-of-pocket expense for her mother - a single mother of five children - is $145 a day for these services.
The ATI Foundation will provide financial assistance toward her therapies at the Children’s Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, GA.
