Larry
Howell, MI
Age 15
Spina Bifida, Massive Omphalocele, Club Feet
Larry Prout, Jr. is a true living miracle, and continues to defy the odds every day. He was born with all of his organs on the outside of his body - an extreme rarity in itself. Over the years, he has been given 37 separate diagnoses; the primary ones include spina bifida, massive omphalocele, cloacal extrophy and short gut syndrome.
Like the Energizer Bunny, Larry keeps going and going. Thus far, he has had 93 surgeries in his 15 years of life, and will continue to need additional surgeries for the rest of his life.
He is chronically medically fragile, but he continues to have a great spirit, never complains and loves his family. He touches the lives of all those who know him, including his life-long surgeon, Dr. Hirschlat, at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, and most recently the 2016 Michigan Wolverines football team.
The ATI Foundation will provide financial assistance toward the mounting medical debt from Larry’s surgeries.
