Complications of Liver Transplant
Nathan was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia (rare liver disease) at the age of six weeks old. He has undergone two surgeries, has had numerous stays at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and at 10 months old had a life-saving liver transplant.
His team of doctors at Lurie’s have been treating him since the transplant, and recently at the age of four, Nathan has begun to suffer from several serious complications related to the transplanted liver.
Nathan is currently in the hospital for an extended stay while he and his family are in a holding pattern to see what his liver will do. The family has incurred several thousand dollars of debt during the last four years related to expenses not covered by insurance and due to his mother having to take several weeks off each year of unpaid leave from her job.
The ATI Foundation will provide financial assistance toward Nathan’s current hospitalization and medical expenses related to future medical procedures needed.
