Ranger
Mesa, AZ
Age 5 months
Spina Bifida
Ranger was diagnosed with Spina Bifida at 20 weeks gestation. Previous genetic testing showed no signs of a disability, and when he was diagnosed, the family was given the choice to terminate the pregnancy. This was not an acceptable solution for the family. Instead, the family opted for a high-risk fetal surgery that was very successful in helping prevent further physical harm to Ranger and his mother.
He is currently under the care of nine different doctors, surgeons and medical specialists. Due to the location of the gap in his spine, the family has been told not to expect him to walk, but some medical opinions have suggested that with proper ankle braces, a walker and potential foot surgeries, he may have some future mobility.
The ATI Foundation will help provide financial assistance for medical expenses that have not been covered by insurance. To date, Ranger’s family has incurred over $20,000 in unpaid expenses, with a life-long future of additional surgeries and equipment needs.
