On Saturday, August 31, the ATI Foundation and Preston’s March for Energy will present adaptive bikes to two special children, Owen Birk, age 7, from Galloway, OH, and Derick Goldsmith, age 14, from Pickerington, OH. The presentation will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency, 350 N. High Street, Columbus, OH.
The ATI Foundation, a nonprofit organization run through ATI Physical Therapy to help children with physical impairments, and Preston’s March for Energy, which provides children with adaptive bikes, first established a partnership in 2012 to leverage their efforts and help children in need. Over the past two years, the two organizations have donated adaptive bikes to over 20 children.
“At Preston’s March, we always strive to have a ‘pay it forward’ attitude,” said Deb Buenaga, Executive Director of Preston’s March. “People have been so gracious to us, and we love being able to pay it forward and make the lives of other children better. The ATI Foundation has allowed us to give bikes to even more children who deserve them.”
Buenaga’s passion for providing adaptive bikes to children with disabilities first developed after seeing her son Preston, who has Mitochondrial Disease, receive his own adaptive bike as part of a fundraiser arranged by a family friend. Since establishing Preston’s March in her son’s namesake, the family has traveled across the country to provide children with adaptive bikes.
