ATI Physical Therapy Partners with University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health
Partnership Will Provide Athletic Training Services for Harford County Public Schools
ATI Physical Therapy and University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health (UM UCH) are proud to announce a new partnership, along with Harford County Public Schools, that will unite ATI certified athletic trainers with UM UCH physicians. Together, they will offer the student-athletes of all 10 of the county’s public high schools unparalleled sports medicine coverage and rehabilitation starting this school year.
ATI's athletic trainers are certified health care professionals who understand the complexities of high-level rehabilitation and are experts in preventing, evaluating, diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating injuries. Full-time athletic trainers will cover all home games for all sports and practices. Services provided include injury education and prevention programs, conditioning program development, emergency medical care, rehabilitation, therapeutic massage, weight certification, and nutrition programs.
“We’re excited to partner with UM UCH to bring the highest level of care to Harford County. Our team is dedicated to comprehensive care for the athletes, ensuring excellent communication to all parties,” said Lisa Boyer, Director of Sports Medicine, ATI Physical Therapy. “In addition to being present at games and practices to treat acute injuries, we will work closely with the physicians, players and coaches to improve the overall health of athletes, return them safely to activity and help prevent future injuries.”
UM UCH’s team physicians are experts in the field of sports medicine. Together, they provide the most comprehensive care for athletes in our community, close to home. An individual physician will be assigned to each high school and is ultimately responsible for the supervision of a student-athlete’s care.
“Our physicians not only live and work in Harford County, but their kids attend these public schools in which they will serve,” said Derek McCoy, M.D., Medical Director, UM Upper Chesapeake Health Sports Medicine. Dr. McCoy is a former assistant and team physician for semi- and professional teams such as the Philadelphia Phillies and York Revolution. He is also the current team physician for The John Carroll School and is looking forward to providing ongoing care, support and communication to both athletes and their parents. “Our ultimate goal has always been to care for our community on the sidelines and we are proud to partner with ATI, a national leader in providing athletic trainers and physical therapy services for sports related injuries.”
ATI, in conjunction with Dr. McCoy, will also manage Harford County Public School’s ImPACT® concussion testing program. Developed by clinical experts who pioneered the field, ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is the most-widely used and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system. ImPACT provides trained clinicians with neurocognitive assessment tools and services that have been medically accepted as state-of-the-art best practices -- as part of determining safe return to play decisions.
