ATI Sports Medicine to Provide Athletic Training Services for Cecil County High Schools
Cecil County, MD – Certified athletic trainers from ATI Physical Therapy will be on the field providing coverage to athletes at all five Cecil County Public High Schools for the 2014-2015 school year. ATI, one of the largest employers of athletic trainers in the country, was awarded the Athletic Training Program contract by the Cecil County Board of Education.
ATI's athletic trainers are certified healthcare professionals who understand the complexities of high-level rehabilitation and are experts in preventing, evaluating, diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating injuries. Full-time athletic trainers will cover all home games for all sports and practices. Services provided include injury education and prevention programs, conditioning program development, emergency medical care, rehabilitation, therapeutic massage, weight certification, and nutrition programs.
“We’re excited to bring our model of care to Cecil County. Our team is dedicated to providing high quality, comprehensive care to all athletes and ensuring excellent communication with the athlete, coach, parents and physicians,” said Lisa Boyer, Director of Sports Medicine, ATI Physical Therapy.
In addition, ATI will manage Cecil County Public School’s ImPACT® concussion testing program. Developed by clinical experts who pioneered the field, ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is the most-widely used and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system. ImPACT provides trained clinicians with neurocognitive assessment tools and services that have been medically accepted as state-of-the-art best practices -- as part of determining safe return to play decisions.
“ATI has been rehabilitating the athletes of Cecil County for many years. Providing athletic trainers to the high schools will now allow us to be involved from the time of the injury through the entire course of care,” said Ralph Franceschini, MPT, Senior Vice President of Operations, ATI Physical Therapy. “It will also give us the opportunity to get involved in the conditioning of the athletes in the hope of avoiding injuries and improving performance.”
ATI Physical Therapy is proud to be the Official Sports Medicine Provider for over 150 high schools, colleges, universities, clubs, organizations, and professional teams. Athletic trainers are considered allied health care professionals, and must meet qualifications set by the Board of Certification, Inc., and the state licensing board. They coordinate care under the direction of a physician and other health care professionals, and are members of a health care profession recognized by the American Medical Association. All certified athletic trainers must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in order to practice athletic training.
ATI Physical Therapy operates five outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation clinics in Cecil County, which will support the certified athletic trainers.
