On Saturday, April 27, former University of Delaware basketball star Elena Delle Donne visited ATI Physical Therapy for her “First State Farewell.” Delle Donne, who was chosen as the second overall pick in the WNBA draft, leaves for Chicago this week to begin her time with the Chicago Sky.
Over 100 supporters came to the private autograph signing to say goodbye to this First State superstar. Although she’ll be in Chicago during the WNBA season, Delle Donne assured everyone that she plans to return to Delaware in the off-season.
“We were honored to have Elena join us for the afternoon,” said Dan Baughan, Senior Regional Director for ATI. “She’s made the state of Delaware proud, and we were glad to have an opportunity to say goodbye to her.”
Delle Donne, a Wilmington, Del. native, first gained national recognition by leading her team at Ursuline Academy to three straight Delaware State Championships. While at Ursuline, Delle Donne worked closely with Lisa Boyer, East Coast Director of Sports Medicine at ATI, who served as the school’s athletic trainer. Delle Donne also worked with John Noonan, PTA, at ATI’s Pike Creek facility throughout her high school and college career.
“We’ve had the opportunity of working with Elena and watching her grow since her time at Ursuline,” Boyer said. “We’re so proud of everything she’s accomplished and look forward to seeing her succeed as part of the Chicago Sky.”
