On Saturday, October 27, chili lovers, music fans, and competitive runners came together for the East Coast Celebration Extravaganza. The over 650 participants had a big reason to celebrate – they helped to raise $20,000 for the ATI Foundation and children with physical impairments.
The event kicked off with the 5K Run, Walk, and Roll, where participants ran a course that wound around the Wilmington Riverfront and brought them back to Frawley Stadium, home of the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Congratulations to all of our finishers and a special congratulations to our race winners!

The morning continued with our inaugural Chili Cook-Off & Tasting. Participants enjoyed tasting some of the finest, tastiest, and spiciest chilies that our contestants could whip up! Our three judges – CBS 3 Philadelphia anchor Ukee Washington, Delaware Food Blog editor Ryan R., and ATI Senior Vice President of Operations Ray Wahl – evaluated each chili to determine who would take home the title. Between music from Love Seed Mama Jump, face painting, and good food, Terry Williams, director of the ATI Foundation, had the opportunity to present gifts to two Foundation beneficiaries. First, he presented an adaptive bicycle to Drew Rigney (Spina Bifida), which will allow Drew to exercise regularly. The bike donation is part of an ongoing partnership with Preston’s March for Energy, and at Saturday’s event, Terry announced that the Foundation will sponsor six more bikes, with Preston’s March for Energy, for children in 2013.
The second presentation went to 16-year-old Dan Miller (Hunter’s Syndrome) and his family. The Foundation was able to present them with a $2,000 check to help assist the family in converting their mini-van into a wheel-chair enabled van. This will allow them to transport Dan more easily each day.
A big thanks to all participants, and volunteers who donated their money and time to help children with physical impairments through the ATI Foundation! A very special thank you to our event sponsors who helped make this event a success, including: Remline Promotions, Staples Business Advantage; Advanced Rehabilitation Services, Ernie Loberg Construction, First State Orthopaedics, the Law Offices of Doroshow, Pasquale, Krawitz, and Bhaya, PRO Work Occupational and Employee Health, Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists, Herr’s and Saladworks.
