Rehoboth Beach physical therapist helps slow the progression of Parkinson's Disease

Over four million people worldwide suffer from Parkinson’s Disease, a neurological disease. Philip Allen, clinic director at ATI Physical Therapy Rehoboth Beach, is working to help slow the progression of that degenerative disease.
Allen completed the Parkinson’s Wellness and Recovery (PWR!) clinical training in late October. The training, sponsored by the Parkinson Education and Support Group of Sussex County (part of Delmarva’s Parkinson’s Alliance), focuses on neurological physical therapy, a type of rehabilitation practice gaining popularity in the Parkinson’s community since its inception in 2009.
Allen found the techniques demonstrated at the course very helpful.
“Integrating Exercise4BrainChange® will be immediately appreciated by our patients, along with their families,” Allen said. “The PWR! techniques will be fun and worthwhile toward meeting their functional goals.”
The training focused on Exercise4BrainChange®, a research-based program that targets the unique physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges of living with Parkinson’s. This proactive, ongoing treatment plan uses exercise to optimize brain health and skill acquisition in an attempt to increase longevity and quality of life for patients with Parkinson’s.
