Maliky
Spokane, WA
Maliky is 6 years old and lives in Spokane, WA. He has Leukodystrophy. The ATI Foundation, in partnership with Preston's March for Energy, presented 6-year-old Maliky with an adaptive bicycle.
Maliky has a very rare disease called Leukodystrophy, which causes a breakdown of the brain’s myelin, or white matter, that protects the part of the nerve that sends signals from the brain to the rest of the body. He is unable to stand on his own, walk without assistance and is wheelchair bound a majority of the time.
Doctors had predicted that Maliky would live only until the age of four because of the severity of his disease. This brave 6-year-old is a living miracle every day with the world’s biggest smile and kindest personality.
The ATI Foundation, in partnership with Preston's March for Energy, presented 6-year-old Maliky with an adaptive bicycle. Maliky was the ATI Foundation's FIRST beneficiary in the state of Washington!
Although he can’t stand on his own, Maliky's new adaptive bike allowed him to ride a bike for the first time! He is now able to have fun with his brothers, sisters and neighborhood kids; something that was not possible until now. Plus, riding will help him improve his muscles so he can continue to be a living miracle.
The ATI Foundation is proud to partner with Preston’s March for Energy, a charity based in Delaware that provides adaptive bicycles to children with disabilities. Out of the 52 bikes Prestons’ March for Energy has provided to children over the last three years, Maliky's bike is the 25th bike the ATI Foundation has paid for through its ongoing partnership. The ATI Foundation has also provided adaptive bicycles to children in Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
